On a cold evening in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 2, 2022, the life of 16-year-old Jucelena Gomes "Jocy" Ramos was tragically cut short. A Hispanic/Latino female, Jucelena was in the Codman Square area of Dorchester when violence erupted at the intersection of Lyndhurst Street and Washington Street. In an incident that marked the city's first homicide of the new year, three people were shot.
While two others, one of whom was also a teenager, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Jucelena was fatally wounded.
Emergency services responded to a 911 call around 6:25 p.m. and found Jucelena suffering from gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The beloved daughter of Helena Gomes and Julio A. Ramos, Jucelena was remembered for her bubbly personality and a smile that could light up a room. She had a promising future and a passion for cosmetology.
In the wake of the shooting, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office and the Boston Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the individual or individuals responsible for Jucelena's death.
