On the evening of the Fourth of July in 2022, a celebration at a Randolph, Massachusetts nightclub ended in tragedy, claiming the life of 29-year-old Ivanildo Cabral, a Black/African American male. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. in the parking area of the Mojitos Country Club on Mazzeo Drive, where a Fourth of July pool party was concluding.
According to the Norfolk District Attorney's office, Cabral and another man were leaving the club when they had a verbal exchange with a group
of other men. The confrontation quickly escalated, and shots were fired. Randolph Police responded to reports of a shooting and discovered two men with gunshot wounds. Both victims were rushed to a Boston hospital, where Cabral succumbed to his injuries. The second man sustained life-threatening injuries but survived.
Cabral, who was from Worcester, was remembered by his mother as a beautiful person who loved amateur boxing and had a generous nature. She expressed shock and confusion about why her son was in Randolph, as he typically stayed closer to his home in the Worcester area.
The investigation into the shooting led by Randolph Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives continued for months. In March 2023, authorities announced the arrest of 29-year-old Shawn Johnson of Worcester in connection with Cabral's murder. He was charged with murder, assault with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, armed assault with intent to murder, mayhem, and carrying a firearm. Shortly after Johnson's arrest, police began a manhunt for a second suspect, 29-year-old Jovani Delossantos, also of Worcester, who faced the same charges. Delossantos was apprehended in Woburn, Massachusetts, in May 2023. A third individual, 28-year-old Bianca Chionchio, was also indicted on a charge of accessory after the fact of murder for allegedly driving Johnson and Delossantos to New York after the shooting.
