In the early morning hours of December 7, 2022, a domestic dispute in Fall River, Massachusetts, escalated into a tragic murder-suicide that left 69-year-old male, Hubert Labasquin, dead. The series of events unfolded at a residence on Bank Street where Labasquin, his wife, and his daughter had been living with his other daughter and her fiancé, 25-year-old Christopher Jean Baptiste, for several months while they searched for a new home.
Tensions over the living arrangements came to a
head when Baptiste, unhappy with the family's continued presence, demanded they leave immediately. Armed with a handgun for which he had a valid license, Baptiste confronted the family. A physical altercation ensued between Baptiste and Hubert Labasquin, during which Labasquin was fatally shot.
While Labasquin's daughter was on the phone with 911 to report the shooting, Baptiste turned the gun on her 59-year-old mother and 25-year-old sister, wounding both of them. Shortly after, Baptiste took his own life. Emergency services transported Hubert Labasquin to Rhode Island Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His wife and daughter were taken to Saint Luke's Hospital in New Bedford and were expected to survive their injuries. As the suspect died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the death of Hubert Labasquin.
