On a tragic Valentine's Day in 2018, Maurice Timberlake, a 24-year-old male, was fatally shot in Fall River, Massachusetts. The incident occurred in broad daylight around 4:30 p.m. near the corner of South Main and Morgan streets. First responders arrived at the scene to find Timberlake suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Saint Anne's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting led police to 19-year-old Keishon Workman.
Workman was apprehended by Fall River Police in the Corky Row area shortly after the shooting. He was initially charged with illegal firearm possession, and a murder charge was added the following morning. Investigators believe the motive for the killing was a case of mistaken identity. Workman reportedly told police he believed Timberlake had shot him in a previous incident and became enraged upon seeing him. However, this turned out to be incorrect. The attack was described as a premeditated ambush in which Workman had stalked Timberlake before shooting him seven times at close range.
After a two-week trial in Fall River Superior Court, a jury convicted Keishon Workman of first-degree murder and carrying an illegal firearm. Given that Workman was 19 at the time of the murder, the judge sentenced him to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years, which was the maximum sentence allowed by law. The victim's family endured a six-year wait for the verdict, which was described as a moment of solace for them.
