Kendra Dee Maurmann, 42, female, was discovered on April 4, 1995, when hunters came upon a shallow grave along Eagle Creek, north of New Bridge and Richland in rural Baker County, Oregon. The remains were badly decomposed, and investigators believed the body had lain there for months; an autopsy determined she had been killed by a gunshot to the head.
In the months before her death, Maurmann had been living with relatives in the nearby town of Halfway. After she was identified, the remoteness of the creek corridor and the scarcity of witnesses left investigators with few leads to follow. Authorities emphasized that the case was a homicide and appealed to the public for information to help reconstruct her final movements and identify the shooter.
No arrests have been announced, and law enforcement has not publicly identified any suspect or person of interest. The investigation has remained open for years, with the Baker County Sheriff’s Office continuing to seek tips from anyone who might recall activity in the Eagle Creek and Richland–New Bridge area during the winter leading into early April 1995.
