In the quiet, early morning hours of September 14, 2002, in the small community of Curtin, Oregon, the life of 38-year-old Morris Taylor, a White male, was tragically cut short. A dedicated Deputy Sheriff with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, he was responding to a report of a man engaged in lewd acts at a motel on Bear Creek Road. The call came in at approximately 7:40 a.m., shattering the morning calm and setting in motion a chain of events that would end in violence.
