On April 22, 2011, Eugene Police Officer Chris Kilcullen, a 43-year-old veteran of the force, was tragically shot and killed during a traffic stop in Springfield, Oregon. The incident began when Officer Kilcullen initiated a traffic stop on a reckless driver who had run a red light. The driver, identified as 56-year-old Cheryl Kidd, fled the scene, prompting Officer Kilcullen to pursue her into Springfield on Highway 126.
