In the small city of Ontario, Oregon, the life of 25-year-old Douglas LeRoy West was tragically cut short on Halloween night, October 31, 2014. Known to his loved ones as "Miklo," Douglas was a man who found joy in the outdoors, often spending his time hunting, fishing, and riding his dirt bike. He was remembered for his heartwarming smile and a selfless nature, always prioritizing the needs of others.
For the preceding four years, he had been a dedicated employee at Seneca Produce.
That evening, in the 600 block of Fortner Street, an altercation occurred that resulted in a fatal shooting. Douglas was rushed to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Ontario, but tragically, he was pronounced dead. The incident prompted an investigation involving the Ontario Police Department, Oregon State Police, and the Malheur County Sheriff's Office.
In connection with the shooting, authorities arrested 34-year-old Jayme Wintersteen. He was subsequently charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm and was booked into the Malheur County Jail. The community was left to mourn the loss of a man described as good and loyal, who deeply loved his family and friends. He was particularly devoted to his girlfriend, Amanda Gonzales, and her two sons, whom he was helping to raise. His death left a profound void in the lives of his parents, siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.
