In the quiet expanse of the Cold Springs area, west of Rocky Point, Oregon, a life was tragically cut short on the evening of July 20, 2018. Robert V. Huycke, a 58-year-old male resident of the Rocky Point area, sustained a single, fatal gunshot wound. The incident prompted a swift response from the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office deputies and medical personnel, who were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:55 PM following a report of a seriously injured man.
Upon their arrival,
they found Huycke grievously wounded. Witnesses at the scene immediately informed the authorities that the shooting had been accidental in nature. Despite the urgent efforts of emergency responders, who transported him by ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center, Huycke ultimately succumbed to his injury.
The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office conducted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Their findings corroborated the initial witness statements, indicating that there was no foul play involved in Huycke's death. The investigation concluded that he died as a result of an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
