On a Sunday in early spring, the 17th of March, 2019, a grim discovery was made on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in Oregon. A passerby, traveling along Tenino Road, noticed something out of place about 50 feet from the roadway. Upon closer inspection, the passerby found the body of 31-year-old Gunner Johnson Bailey, a male resident of the reservation.
Law enforcement was summoned to the scene, and it was soon determined that Bailey’s death was not accidental.
An investigation revealed that he had been shot to death. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was brought in to lead the inquiry into the homicide, working in conjunction with the Warm Springs Police Department. Despite the efforts of investigators, the circumstances surrounding Gunner Johnson Bailey’s death remained shrouded in mystery.
In the years that have followed, no arrests have been made in connection with the killing, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case has grown cold, leaving a lingering sense of unanswered questions for Bailey's family and the community. The FBI has offered a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that could lead to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. The loss of Gunner Johnson Bailey continues to be an open wound, a story without a final chapter, as authorities continue to seek the public's help in bringing his killer or killers to justice.
