In the late summer of 2019, the quiet coastal community of Otis, Oregon, became the backdrop for a unsettling mystery following the disappearance of Cameron Sheldon. A 37-year-old White male, Sheldon, a railroad engineer from the Seattle area, was visiting his girlfriend, Lisa Bagby, when he was last seen on September 1, 2019. What began as a missing person case soon took a grim turn, leaving a trail of questions that, for a time, seemed to have no answers.
According to Bagby's account
to investigators, Sheldon had left her residence on foot, leaving behind his truck, keys, wallet, and cellphone. This puzzling detail sparked an extensive search of the rural property and surrounding rugged terrain. For over two weeks, Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies, search and rescue teams, and volunteers scoured the area. They employed K9 units specially trained to detect human remains, drones to survey the dense landscape from above, and even brought in an excavator to search the property more thoroughly. Despite these exhaustive efforts, there was no sign of the missing man.
The investigation took a dramatic and perplexing turn on September 17, 2019. It was on this day that Lisa Bagby herself contacted the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office to report that she had discovered Sheldon's body on her property. His remains were found in a densely vegetated area that had not been covered by the previous law enforcement searches. The discovery of his body by his girlfriend, after trained search teams had found nothing, raised immediate questions.
An autopsy later confirmed that Cameron Sheldon had died from a. 45-caliber gunshot wound to the head. Adding to the intrigue, a semi-automatic handgun of the same caliber and a single shell casing were found near his body. The advanced state of decomposition indicated that he had been deceased for some time.
