In the turbulent summer of 2020, amidst nationwide protests, the life of Jake Gardner, a 38-year-old White male and former Marine, took a drastic and ultimately tragic turn. On the night of May 30, in downtown Omaha, Nebraska, Gardner, the owner of The Hive bar, became embroiled in an altercation with protesters.
