In the early morning hours of May 29, 2021, the life of Darren Lockett, a 40-year-old Black/African American man, was tragically cut short in Portland, Oregon. At approximately 1:05 a.m., Portland Police Bureau officers were dispatched to the intersection of Southeast 132nd Avenue and Southeast Center Street following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr.
Lockett in the street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel quickly arrived at the scene and transported him to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Darren Lockett succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office later conducted an autopsy, confirming that the cause of death was a gunshot wound and officially ruling the manner of death as a homicide.
Homicide detectives with the Portland Police Bureau immediately launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. To date, however, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or persons of interest. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, as investigators have not released information regarding a potential motive.

In partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, a cash reward of up to $2,500 has been offered for information that leads to an arrest.
