On August 27, 1998, Chief of Police Chloe Francis 'Frankie' Stanton, aged 43, was fatally shot in Bradshaw, West Virginia. The incident began when a man caused a disturbance at a local pharmacy after riding into the small town on horseback. Chief Stanton intervened, confiscating a. 32 caliber pistol from him and taking him into custody. She escorted the man to the police station for processing.
