Richard Gene Laney, a 57-year-old resident of Crum, West Virginia, met his demise on March 28, 2014. The circumstances surrounding his death were marked by violence and involved a neighbor.

On the day of the incident, Laney was standing in the doorway of his home on River Bend Road when he was fatally shot.
