Jevonte Jennings, a 22-year-old Black/African American man, was fatally shot in Beckley, West Virginia, on August 19, 2015. The shooting initially emerged in local news as a report of a person who had been critically injured by gunfire. Police responding to the incident found a man suffering from a gunshot wound or wounds at a residence in Beckley. Jennings later died from his injuries, turning what began as a shooting investigation into a homicide investigation.
