On a late spring evening in Beckley, West Virginia, the life of Darrius Toney, a 29-year-old Black/African American man, was tragically cut short. On May 30, 2016, Toney was fatally shot in a violent encounter that would leave his family and community mourning a life ended too soon. The incident was immediately investigated by sheriff's deputies as a homicide.
