On an evening in early August of 2020, a dispute outside a home on the West Side of Charleston, West Virginia, ended in the tragic death of Sergio Southall, a 34-year-old White / Caucasian male. The incident unfolded around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, in front of Southall's residence in the 300 block of Elm Street. An argument between Southall and two other men escalated, leading to a fatal shooting.
According to Charleston police detectives, one of the two men involved in the
argument with Southall brandished a firearm and shot him multiple times. The suspects, described by police as two Black men, fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Emergency services transported Southall to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement began a search for the two suspects, and the Charleston Police Department opened a homicide investigation. However, despite their efforts, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the shooting. The case has left a void in the lives of his family, including his mother, sister, and grandmother. Those who knew Sergio remember him as someone who loved life and had a knack for making people laugh, always brightening a room with his smile. The investigation into his death remains unresolved, with the perpetrators yet to be brought to justice.
