Anthony Lee Hizer, a 36-year-old White / Caucasian male from Madison, West Virginia, died in the early morning hours of March 18, 2022, after a shooting in the Boone County community of Uneeda. What began as an altercation just after 2:00 a.m. turned fatal when authorities said Hizer was shot during the confrontation. The shooting happened around 2:10 a.m., and West Virginia State Police quickly treated the case as a homicide.
Hizer’s death left behind the picture of a man whose life was tied closely to family, friends, and the outdoors. His obituary described him as someone who loved spending time with the people closest to him and enjoyed camping, fishing, and football. He was survived by loved ones including his wife, girlfriend, father and stepmother, daughter, siblings, and other family members, making the sudden violence of his death especially devastating for those who knew him outside the details of the criminal investigation.
Investigators identified Timothy
Lang Westfall of St. Albans, West Virginia, as the suspect in the shooting. State Police said Westfall and Hizer became involved in an altercation in Uneeda, and during that altercation, Westfall shot Hizer, causing his death. After the shooting, authorities issued a murder warrant for Westfall and initially said they were searching for him. Police released identifying details and indicated he may have been in the Huntington area or possibly heading toward Florida.
Later that same day, law enforcement located Westfall in Huntington. He was arrested without incident and transported to Western Regional Jail to await court proceedings. Reports described him as being charged with murder, with booking information listing a murder charge in Boone County. The investigation was handled by the Madison Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, and authorities asked anyone with additional information to contact them as the case moved forward.
