On a summer evening in Sissonville, West Virginia, a community near Charleston, the life of 57-year-old Kathryn Marie Springston Sloan, a White female, was tragically cut short. On July 17, 2022, she was found deceased from gunshot wounds at a residence on Walker Drive. Her death was not an isolated incident, as another individual, 66-year-old Steven Sloan, was also discovered deceased at the same location.
The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office immediately began an investigation into the
two deaths. As detectives delved into the circumstances surrounding the grim discovery, it became apparent that the two individuals were married. This familial connection led investigators to suspect the incident was a murder-suicide.
While the investigation was ongoing pending final autopsy reports, the preliminary theory of a murder-suicide shed light on the tragic nature of the event. Kathryn, remembered for her beautiful smile and positive personality, was a 1984 graduate of Webster County High School and a devout believer in Jesus. She found joy in gardening and reading. Per her wishes, she was cremated, and a private service was planned for a later date.
