On the 25th of that month, Houston was discovered lying in a driveway, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his chest. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
The incident also left another man, 35-year-old Jorge Chavez, with a gunshot wound to his leg.
The Sioux City Police Department promptly began an investigation into the shooting. In the immediate aftermath, authorities announced they were searching for a male suspect, but a name was not publicly released. The shooting took place at a residence on the city's west side, a location that had been the scene of a double homicide just a few months earlier. However, law enforcement officials stated that they did not believe the two violent events were connected.
