On the evening of October 4, 2015, the life of 21-year-old James D. Richardson, a male from Freeport, Illinois, was tragically cut short in Dubuque, Iowa. At approximately 11:01 p.m., the Dubuque Police Department received a report of a disturbance involving gunfire in the area of 705 ½ Rhomberg Avenue.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive James Richardson in the backyard of a neighboring property at 707/709 Rhomberg Avenue.
He appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate efforts of the officers to render aid, Richardson could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators began processing the area and recovered a firearm, along with other physical evidence indicating that a shooting had occurred. In the initial stages of the investigation, law enforcement officials stated their belief that the incident was not a random act of violence and that the individuals involved likely knew each other.
At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide. The investigation into the death of James Richardson was launched and remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the public regarding the circumstances of his death.
