Death by Force

On May 21, 2017, at approximately 2:30 a.m., 19-year-old Ruot Wiyual Gach of Carroll, Iowa, was fatally shot in the parking lot of Zion Lutheran Church, located at 4300 Beaver Avenue in Des Moines. The incident occurred during a Sudanese engagement ceremony inside the church, though authorities indicated that the events inside were unrelated to the violence outside, aside from a possible family connection.
