In the quiet morning hours of February 7, 2020, the life of Nathan Edgar Brower, a 40-year-old White / Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in his West Valley City, Utah, home. The events that unfolded were the culmination of a history of domestic violence. Brower was fatally shot by Jeremy Reed Harris, the 40-year-old ex-husband of his girlfriend. Harris arrived at Brower's residence on Deann Drive around 6:20 a.m. and confronted Brower and his ex-wife, opening fire on both of them.
Brower succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His girlfriend sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital in serious condition but was expected to survive. Two children, ages 5 and 10, were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were physically unharmed.
The suspect, Jeremy Reed Harris, fled the scene. Approximately an hour later, a homeowner on Hawkeye Circle, about 3.5 miles away, discovered an armed man lying in his shower and immediately alerted the police. Authorities responded and, after taking precautions, entered the residence to find Harris deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There was no known connection between Harris and the residents of the home where he was found. Court records revealed a troubled history for Harris, including a protective order that had been secured against him by his ex-wife in October 2019, following a previous altercation where he had assaulted Brower.
Nathan Brower was remembered as a beloved father, brother, and friend with a passion for Jeeps, particularly his own, which he had named "Rihanna." Born in Salt Lake City on February 19, 1979, he was a graduate of Hunter High School and was known for his strong work ethic and creative spirit. Above all, he was a devoted father to his two sons, who were the center of his world. His death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends.
