In the early morning hours of March 13, 2021, Mostafa Hosseini, a 26-year-old male, was found deceased next to the driver's side door of his car in South Salt Lake, Utah. The tragic events unfolded at the South Parc Townhome Apartments located at 462 E. 2240 South, where police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 1:44 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Hosseini's body; a subsequent autopsy confirmed he had died from gunshot wounds. Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing three to four gunshots before finding Hosseini lying on the ground with no one else around.

The investigation into Hosseini's death revealed that he had spent the evening with a group of five other individuals, including the man who would later be identified as his alleged killer. The group had been to a club in Salt Lake City and were drinking beer while driving around before heading to the South Parc Townhomes to drop off the suspect. According to witness statements, there had been growing tension throughout the night. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Ashish Biswa, had reportedly been fixated on Hosseini's Rolex watch, grabbing at it multiple times, though Hosseini refused to let him handle it. At one point, Biswa passed around a handgun for everyone in the car to see, but Hosseini was the only one who declined to touch it.

A heated argument ultimately erupted between Hosseini and Biswa. A witness stated that the argument was over Biswa refusing to give Hosseini one of his cigarettes. The witness, sensing the escalating tension, decided to get out of the car. Just moments after stepping away, the witness heard three to four gunshots and saw Hosseini fall out of the vehicle.

Three days after the shooting, Ashish Biswa was arrested in connection with the death of Mostafa Hosseini. Police located Biswa as he was walking back to his apartment and found a silver. 380 handgun in his possession. He was subsequently booked into the Salt Lake County jail and faced multiple charges, including murder, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and three counts of felony discharge of a firearm. It was revealed that Biswa was on parole for a prior felony and had an extensive criminal history. He was held without bail following his arrest.
