On the morning of December 14, 2025, Salt Lake City police officers were dispatched to the Sugar House neighborhood following reports of a possible overdose. Upon arriving at the scene near 2131 South Lincoln Street, adjacent to a Smith's grocery store, first responders discovered the body of 58-year-old male Steve Gus Kallas lying on the ground near a recreational vehicle.
