In the spring of 2023, a life was tragically cut short in southwest Atlanta following a dispute that escalated to gunfire. On the evening of Friday, May 12, 2023, 35-year-old DeMarcus Bolton was shot and killed. The incident occurred in the 2000 block of Sylvan Road, near a small shopping complex just north of Langford Parkway. Atlanta police responded to reports of a person shot shortly after 10 p.m. and found Bolton at the scene with at least one gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigations suggested that a verbal argument preceded the fatal shooting. For nearly two weeks, the suspect remained at large. Then, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, the man accused in Bolton's death, Reginald Roberts, 32, of Forest Park, surrendered to authorities at the Fulton County Jail. His surrender brought a significant development to the case that had left a family and community mourning.
Following his surrender, Reginald Roberts was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Friends and family remembered DeMarcus Bolton as a man full of life who spread positivity to everyone he met. He was a father to a daughter and his sudden death was a profound loss to those who knew him. The case against Roberts is now proceeding through the legal system.
