In a southwest Atlanta barbershop on November 14, 2024, a dispute between two barbers over a client escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 53-year-old Stephen Everson, a Black male. The incident occurred at the Up Next Barber Shop & Beauty, located in the Princeton Lakes Shopping Center on Carmia Drive.
The argument, which began inside the barbershop, tragically concluded when one of the barbers produced a firearm and shot Everson multiple times.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical crews who responded to the incident at approximately 10:15 a.m. Everson was remembered by a client as a gentle and devoted father of five.
Shortly after the shooting, 44-year-old James Moss, a fellow barber at the establishment, surrendered to a sheriff's deputy who was in the vicinity. Moss was subsequently arrested by the Atlanta Police Department and has been charged with murder. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail.
