In the quiet expanse near Echo, Utah, a day of hunting turned into a scene of tragedy on January 31, 2022, ending the life of 58-year-old Lynette Fagg Billeter. A Caucasian female from Sandy, Utah, Lynette was with her husband, Lonnie, and other family members on a hunting excursion. The group was utilizing a side-by-side ATV in the snowy terrain of Echo Canyon.
Lynette was seated in the passenger seat of the stationary vehicle when a hunting rifle, positioned on the bench seat next to her, discharged. The single shot struck her in the pelvic area, causing a fatal injury.
Emergency services were called around 11:00 a.m. after a family member was able to find a location with cell phone service. A deputy from the Summit County Sheriff's Office and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper were the first to arrive, followed by medical personnel. Despite their life-saving efforts, Lynette succumbed to her injuries at the scene before she could be transported by a medical helicopter that had been summoned. Investigators from the Summit County Sheriff's Office conducted a thorough inquiry into the incident and determined the shooting to be a tragic accident. There have been no arrests made in connection with her death, and no suspects have been named, as the circumstances point to an accidental discharge of the firearm.
Lynette was remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and a dedicated paraeducator in the Canyons School District. She was known for her creative talents, including making t-shirts and scrapbooking, and for the love she shared with her husband of over 40 years. Her sudden and tragic death left her family and community in mourning for a woman described as having a big heart and a readiness to always be there for others.
