On a tragic autumn night in 2003, the life of Shawn Miller, a 30-year-old Black or African American male, was cut short by a sudden act of violence at his Stratford, Connecticut home. Just before midnight on October 13th, a knock came at the back door of his 172 Bruce Avenue residence. When Miller answered, an unknown man dressed in dark clothing shot him in the face and then vanished into the night.
Miller was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries an hour
later, in the early morning hours of October 14, 2003. At the time of his death, Miller was the father of a newborn baby boy. Neighbors and acquaintances described him as a quiet and kind family man who was overjoyed about his new son. The motive for the killing remained a mystery, as police found no evidence of a robbery.
In the immediate aftermath, police canvassed the area and collected evidence, but no suspects were identified. The case grew cold, leaving Miller's family with unanswered questions and a profound sense of loss. Years turned into decades, and still, no arrests were made. Miller's four sons grew up without their father, and his sister and niece have continued to publicly appeal for information. The family has repeatedly asked for the police to reopen the investigation, holding out hope that justice will one day be served for Shawn Miller. As of the 20th anniversary of his death in 2023, his murder remains unsolved, and the identity of his killer is still unknown.
