On a Tuesday night in Hartford, Connecticut, the life of a young Black man, Charles French Jr., was tragically cut short at the age of 21. It was November 15, 2011, and French was walking home in the Asylum Hill neighborhood. He was on the phone with a friend, the conversation abruptly ending with words that would become the last ones anyone would hear from him: "I don't have anything, leave me alone."
