Emilie Alice Parker, a six-year-old Caucasian female, was a bright and compassionate first-grader with a love for art. Known for her perpetually smiling face, beautiful blonde hair, and bright blue eyes, she had a remarkable ability to light up a room. Emilie often carried markers and pencils, always ready to create a thoughtful card for anyone she felt was having a bad day.
She was the loving older sister to two younger siblings, Madeline and Samantha, whom she would teach to read, dance, and make crafts. Her parents, Robbie and Alissa Parker, cherished her creative and caring spirit. The family had moved to Newtown, Connecticut, about a year before the tragedy.
On the morning of December 14, 2012, Emilie's father, Robbie, had a final, brief conversation with her in Portuguese, a language he was teaching her. She told him "Good Morning," asked how he was, said she loved him, and gave him a kiss before he left for work. Later that morning, a 20-year-old man named Adam Lanza forced his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School. Earlier that day, he had fatally shot his mother, Nancy Lanza, at their home. Armed with a semi-automatic rifle and two semi-automatic pistols that belonged to his mother, Lanza began a rampage through the school. He entered two first-grade classrooms, where he shot and killed 20 children and six adult staff members. Emilie Alice Parker was among the children who lost their lives in the attack. The entire assault within the school lasted less than five minutes.
As first responders began to arrive at the scene, Adam Lanza took his own life with a handgun in one of the classrooms. The investigation that followed confirmed that Lanza acted alone in planning and carrying out the attack. Despite extensive investigation into his background, which revealed significant mental health issues and a fascination with mass murders, authorities were never able to conclusively determine a motive for his actions. The criminal investigation into the shooting was officially closed with no arrests made, as the sole suspect was deceased. In the wake of the horrific event, the community of Newtown decided to demolish the Sandy Hook Elementary School building.
