The grim conclusion to their disappearance came on October 29, 2015, when their remains were discovered under a pile of leaves and brush outside a vacant home in the neighboring town of Weston. An autopsy would later reveal that Jeffrey Navin had died from a gunshot wound to his trunk.
The investigation into the couple's disappearance and subsequent deaths quickly focused on their son, Kyle Navin. Authorities uncovered a troubled relationship between Kyle and his parents, who were reportedly distressed over his drug use and irresponsible behavior. They had recently made the decision to sell their successful trash-hauling business and cut their son out of their will. Text messages recovered by investigators painted a chilling picture of Kyle's mindset in the days leading up to his parents' disappearance. The evidence against Kyle Navin mounted, including the discovery of his father's blood in the basement of his Bridgeport home and his mother's blood in his truck. He was arrested and charged with the murders of his parents. His girlfriend, Jennifer Valiante, was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder. In April 2018, just before his trial was set to begin, Kyle Navin pleaded guilty to two counts of murder. He was subsequently sentenced to 55 years in prison.
