On the cold winter night of January 30, 2017, the life of 30-year-old Darren Crittenden, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Hartford, Connecticut. Just after 10 p.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the air outside his home at 114 Ashley Street. When police responded to a 911 call about a serious assault with a firearm, they discovered Crittenden unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Paramedics rushed him to Saint Francis Hospital, but his injuries were too severe.
He was pronounced dead at 10:21 p.m. Back at the scene of the shooting, investigators from the Hartford Police Department's major crimes division began their work. They found several shell casings, a clear indication of the violence that had unfolded. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement expressed that they had some strong leads in the case.
