On a summer evening in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the life of 33-year-old Jennifer Knox came to a tragic end. On July 5, 2017, she was found deceased in her apartment at the Trumbull Gardens public housing complex, the victim of fatal gunshot wounds. The grim discovery was made by her 14-year-old daughter. Also found at the scene was her 32-year-old husband, Keith Knox, who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in what authorities determined to be a murder-suicide.

Jennifer's mother, the tragedy followed a history of abuse. She described her son-in-law as an obsessively jealous and abusive man who had subjected her daughter to continuous battering and humiliation. He had reportedly threatened to kill Jennifer on multiple occasions, at one point even beating her with his gun. The family believes a confrontation over his infidelity may have been the catalyst for the fatal events. Despite these claims of a long-standing abusive relationship during their seven-year marriage, police had no prior record of domestic violence calls to their residence. The couple left behind three children, all under the age of 15.
In the wake of the devastating event, family and friends gathered for a memorial outside the apartment, sharing their grief and remembering Jennifer. Her mother described her as a sweet and smiling person who was always willing to help anyone. A neighbor recalled seeing the couple arguing the day before the incident, a rare public display of the turmoil that existed within their home. Keith Knox was a security guard and firearms instructor with a permit for the handgun he used to end his wife's life and then his own.
