Myoshi Umeki Bagley, a 41-year-old Black/African American woman, was a beloved mother of two, known for her positive attitude and willingness to help anyone in need. Her life was tragically cut short on Halloween night, October 31, 2018, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was fatally shot shortly after 11 p.m. while standing on Howard Avenue.
At the time of the incident, Bagley was with 28-year-old David Belle. They were both struck by gunfire and rushed to St. Vincent's Medical Center.
Bagley succumbed to her injuries that night, becoming the city's eighth homicide victim of the year. Belle, who was shot multiple times, fought for his life for nearly a week before he also died from his injuries on November 6, 2018.
Bridgeport police quickly determined that the bullets that killed Bagley were likely intended for Belle. Investigators believe she was an innocent bystander caught in the violence. The shooting was a devastating blow to her family and friends, who remembered her as a "beautiful soul" who encouraged others to live their best lives. A licensed cosmetologist, Bagley had attended Housatonic Community College and was remembered for her kind and loving nature.
In the wake of the double homicide, the Bridgeport Police Department launched an intensive investigation. They reviewed what they described as "excellent video footage" from the area that may have captured the shooting. This led them to identify a suspect vehicle, a green Mazda MPV minivan, from which they believe the shots were fired from the passenger side. Authorities released surveillance video of the minivan to the public, appealing for assistance in identifying the vehicle and the perpetrators. Despite these efforts and the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Myoshi Bagley and David Belle, and the case remains unsolved.
