In the early morning hours of April 18, 2020, the life of Efrain "Pity" Nieves, a 36-year-old Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in Hartford, Connecticut. At approximately 1:30 a.m., Hartford police were dispatched to the rear of 416 Franklin Avenue following reports of gunfire and a person down. Upon their arrival, they discovered Nieves suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the torso.
Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene before Nieves was
transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Hartford Police Department's Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions promptly took control of the investigation into the city's latest homicide.
Investigators quickly began to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Preliminary findings from the evidence gathered suggested that the incident was not a random act of violence. Authorities believe that Nieves was specifically targeted and that the fatal encounter was narcotics-related. The investigation into his death remains active and ongoing. To date, no arrests have been announced in connection with the murder of Efrain Nieves, and police have not publicly identified any suspects.
