In the late hours of a Monday evening, the life of 29-year-old Evan Howard, a White/Caucasian male from West Hartford, Connecticut, was brought to a tragic and abrupt end. On July 18, 2022, at approximately 11:35 p.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the night on Kensington Street, between Chapel Street and Edgewood Avenue, in New Haven. Responding to a ShotSpotter alert, police officers arrived at a grim scene.
There, they discovered Evan Howard suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them at the hospital. Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit secured the area and collected ballistic evidence, officially launching a homicide investigation into the city's seventh killing of the year.
Authorities have indicated that the shooting likely stemmed from some form of dispute and that Howard was probably the intended target of the violence. Despite the ongoing investigation and the collection of evidence from the scene, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Evan Howard. Police have not publicly identified any suspects.
