David Plank, aged 54, was killed on August 3, 2016, in Chicago, Illinois, as an innocent bystander in a shooting that took place in the Avalon Park neighborhood. Plank was struck by a stray bullet, an all-too-common occurrence during that year of increased gun violence across the city. The shooting that led to Plank's death also wounded a teenage girl who was nearby.
