In the early moments of a Monday, just after midnight had settled over Hot Springs, Arkansas, the life of Chief of Police Robert Oscar Sullivan, a white male, came to an abrupt and violent end on April 14, 1924. Chief Sullivan, who had served with the Hot Springs Police Department for four years, was a man familiar with the town's less savory elements, including a particular traveling gambler with whom he had a history of trouble.
