On a tragic evening in August 2014, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 61-year-old Allen Ray Hill, a male resident of the Whitehouse Community near Fayetteville, Arkansas. The events of August 20th began when his son, Samuel Hill, assaulted his own wife at their home in Fayetteville. Following this, Samuel drove to his parents' residence on South Whitehouse Road, where a heated argument with his father ensued.
The confrontation quickly turned
violent, culminating in a gunfight between father and son. Samuel Hill shot his father multiple times, with at least one bullet striking him in the chest. Allen Hill was able to return fire, wounding his son in the hip. In the midst of the chaos, Allen's wife, Roberta Hill, managed to escape the home by climbing out of a window. Tragically, in the darkness and fearing for her life, she mistook an arriving Washington County Sheriff's Deputy for her son and accidentally shot the officer, who sustained a non-fatal wound.
Following the shooting, Samuel Hill returned to his own residence in Fayetteville, where he was apprehended by law enforcement without further incident. Allen Hill was rushed to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His son, Samuel, was also hospitalized for the gunshot wound he sustained.
Samuel Hill was subsequently charged with capital murder. After a trial in May 2016, a jury found him guilty of the lesser charge of first-degree murder, as well as first-degree attempted murder. The jury spared him the death penalty, and he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his father.
