On the evening of Christmas Eve in 2014, a tragic event unfolded in the Shorter Gardens Housing Area of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Alex Booker, a 27-year-old male resident of Little Rock, was discovered lying in the street by a passerby around 10:00 PM. He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities who were promptly alerted.
The investigation into Booker's death quickly identified a suspect, Tyrun Lamont Jones, a 26-year-old from North Little
Rock who was on parole for first-degree domestic battery at the time. On January 7, 2015, Jones turned himself in to the authorities. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
During the trial, testimony revealed a complex personal dynamic involving the victim, the suspect, and a woman named Brianna Jordan. Jordan testified to having a sexual relationship with both Jones and Booker. She stated that on the night of the murder, she was with Jones at her apartment when Jones used her phone to text Booker, asking him to come over. According to Jordan, a disagreement ensued between Jones and Booker upon his arrival, which culminated in Jones shooting Booker. Another witness, Anita Henderson, who was also present, testified to seeing Jones shoot Booker multiple times in the back.
Jones, however, presented a different account of the events. He claimed that it was Brianna Jordan who shot Booker and that Henderson was not present during the incident. He admitted to initially lying to the police by blaming the murder on another man. Ultimately, the jury convicted Tyrun L. Jones of second-degree murder. He was sentenced to a total of forty years in prison, which included a twenty-five-year sentence for the murder and an additional fifteen years for a firearm enhancement.
