In the early morning hours of July 4, 2015, a violent altercation in the parking lot of the Briarwood Apartments in Little Rock, Arkansas, left two men dead. One of these men was 26-year-old Terrence Slaughter. Police responded to a call about a person down at approximately 2:19 a.m. and discovered Slaughter suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Baptist Hospital and underwent surgery, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Shortly after the initial call, another
man, identified as Kevin Brown, arrived at the same hospital in a private vehicle, also suffering from gunshot wounds. Brown also died from his injuries. Investigators believe that the two men shot each other during a dispute. A witness who drove Brown to the hospital told police that he and Brown had gone to the apartment complex to meet someone. The witness stated that Brown and another man, identified as Slaughter, began arguing over a bag of marijuana.
The argument escalated into a physical struggle, and shots were fired. Although no one witnessed the shooting itself, residents in the complex reported hearing the gunshots and seeing a dark-colored vehicle leaving the scene. At the scene of the shooting, police found a semi-automatic handgun near Slaughter's belongings, along with spent shell casings from two different firearms, indicating that more than one weapon was fired.
The investigation into the deaths of Terrence Slaughter and Kevin Brown concluded that they were the result of the altercation between the two men. A witness identified Slaughter as the individual who shot Brown during the struggle. The police report noted that the vehicle Brown was transported in had bullet holes and contained a shell casing. No arrests were made as the police determined that the two men were responsible for each other's deaths.
