In the summer of 2016, a residence in Van Buren, Arkansas, became the scene of a tragic event that claimed the lives of two young men. On June 18th, 20-year-old Trevor Lane Vargas, a male who had served in the United States Army, was fatally shot. The incident unfolded when 21-year-old Benjamin Lee Allen of Mena, Arkansas, arrived at the home where Vargas was present.
Allen was asked to wait at the door while Vargas gathered some personal belongings.
However, Allen disregarded this request and proceeded to a back bedroom where he confronted Vargas. It was there that Allen shot Vargas before turning the weapon on himself. Both men were transported to local hospitals but succumbed to their injuries.
The Van Buren Police Department investigated the shooting, interviewing witnesses and processing the scene. Their investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide, with Benjamin Lee Allen identified as the perpetrator who took Trevor Vargas's life before ending his own. The case was subsequently closed.
Trevor Vargas, a resident of Waldron at the time of his death, was remembered as a loving family man who was eagerly anticipating the birth of his child. He was known for his enjoyment of outdoor activities such as fishing and camping. He is survived by his wife and son, along with other family members. A funeral service was held for him on June 22, 2016, followed by his burial.
