In the fall of 2018, a workplace in Van Buren, Arkansas, became the tragic final scene in the life of 33-year-old Shawn Sewell. On the evening of October 2nd, the male victim was at his job at 64 Truck and Trailer Repair, located along Alma Highway. It was there that his life was cut short when he was fatally shot. When deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, Sewell was already deceased.
The immediate investigation, aided by eyewitness accounts, quickly
pointed to a single suspect: Shawn Sewell's girlfriend, Christina McKee. Witnesses reported that McKee had come to Sewell's place of employment and shot him before fleeing the scene. The nature of their relationship was described by friends as volatile and often tense. Law enforcement had been called to their residence on previous occasions due to domestic disturbances, with one such call reportedly occurring the night before the fatal shooting. Friends of the couple indicated they were aware of the turmoil, and one shared text messages from Sewell in which he asked for help by having them call the police on his girlfriend. He had even sent a picture of his work vehicle's window, which he claimed McKee had smashed just a day prior to his death.
Following the shooting, the Van Buren police located Christina McKee during a traffic stop and took her into custody. She was subsequently charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Shawn Sewell. McKee was booked into the Crawford County Detention Center, with her bond set at $750,000.
