In the fall of 2016, a promising life was tragically cut short in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Briani Nichole Duhon, a 26-year-old African American woman, was discovered deceased in her apartment on Madden Road on October 13, 2016. Her death left a community in mourning and a family grappling with a devastating loss. Briani was a dedicated mother and an ambitious student, nearing the completion of her nursing degree at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
She had previously earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
The events leading to her death unfolded after police received a report of a possible domestic disturbance. When officers arrived at the apartment Briani shared with 28-year-old Craig Green Jr., they found both of their vehicles parked outside but received no response from within. Fearing for the well-being of the occupants, the officers made a forced entry. Inside, they made the grim discovery of both Briani Duhon and Craig Green Jr., both having succumbed to gunshot wounds.
The ensuing investigation by the Jacksonville Police Department concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. The evidence indicated that Craig Green Jr. had fatally shot Briani Duhon before turning the gun on himself. With the perpetrator deceased, the investigation was closed, leaving no outstanding suspects and resulting in no arrests. The tragedy left behind Briani's young son, Carsen Anthony Green, and a family to mourn the loss of a woman described as compassionate, loving, and a dedicated mother and student.
