In the autumn of 2016, a promising young life was tragically cut short in North Little Rock, Arkansas. On the evening of October 18th, police responded to a call about a shooting at an apartment complex on Flora Street. There, they discovered 18-year-old Yasha Bonds, a Black female, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to her head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the Little Rock teenager quickly led detectives to a person of interest.
Shortly after the incident, authorities arrested Yasha's 20-year-old boyfriend, Robert Earl Burton of North Little Rock. He was subsequently charged with capital murder in connection with her death.
Following his arrest, Burton was transported to the Pulaski County Regional Intake Facility, where he was held without bond. His initial court appearance was scheduled for the morning of October 20, 2016, in North Little Rock District Court. The case brought the issue of domestic violence to the forefront of the community's conversation as they mourned the loss of a young woman.
