On February 18, 2017, at approximately 4 a.m., 30-year-old Willie Baines was fatally shot while seated in the driver's seat of a friend's car near the intersection of 24th Avenue and Poplar Street in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Family members reported that Baines was shot in the back of his head from close range.
The Pine Bluff Police Department responded to the scene and discovered Baines with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center and later transferred to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, where he succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
Investigators found that approximately 30 to 31 rounds had been fired into the vehicle, but only one bullet struck Baines.
