On the night of April 27, 2017, Demarco Wylie, a 28-year-old Black/African American male, was found shot to death in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. His body was discovered near the Suzanne Apartments on South Blake Street. Alongside him was another man, 26-year-old Cameron Haywood, who had also succumbed to gunshot wounds.
Initial assessments by the Pine Bluff Police Department led them to believe that the two men may have shot each other.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene, which seemed to support this early theory. Wylie was found with a handgun underneath his body. The discovery of both men with fatal injuries in close proximity suggested a deadly altercation had taken place between them.
However, as the investigation progressed, authorities began to reconsider their initial conclusion. By February 2018, the Pine Bluff Police Department announced that they were reopening the case. This development suggested that further analysis of the evidence led investigators to believe that another individual may have been involved in the deaths of Wylie and Haywood. In an effort to generate new leads, Demarco Wylie's family offered a $1,000 reward for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. Despite the case being reopened and the offer of a reward, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the deaths. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation.
