In the early morning hours of January 22, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Helena, Arkansas gas station, leaving a young man dead and a community in shock. Casey Grant, a 25-year-old resident of Arkansas, was fatally wounded as he sat in his vehicle at a gas pump at the Victory Fuels gas station located in the 500 block of Columbia street.
The incident, which unfolded around 7:30 a.m., also left a 17-year-old passenger in Grant's SUV injured.
Emergency services rushed Grant to Helena Regional Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries. The teenage victim was also transported to the hospital with non-critical wounds. The investigation into the shooting quickly identified two suspects, Vann Bragg and Jason Robinson. Surveillance footage from the gas station captured the moment when Bragg and Robinson opened fire on the vehicle occupied by Grant and the teenager.
The legal process following the tragic event saw both perpetrators brought to justice. Jason Robinson pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and first-degree battery on November 16, 2020. He received an aggregate prison sentence of thirty years for his role in the fatal shooting. Vann Bragg was also charged and, following a trial, was convicted for his involvement in the death of Casey Grant.
